The Madison
Project brief
Designers of The Madison, a landmark, 53-storey residential tower located just minutes from Canary Wharf, wanted to set new standards in London high-rise living.
The Madison is a striking addition to London’s skyline, providing 423 beautiful new homes to residents.
Multi-Turn were enlisted to work with the design team to conceptualise and manufacture the striking staircases for the building. The staircase design would need to emanate quality, reflecting the calibre of the surrounding interior.
Our solution
We started working with designers one year prior to the fit out so that visuals could be agreed and sizes given in good time for the concrete structure that would surround the stairs to be formed correctly. Our surveyor was responsible for visiting site and taking measurements to ensure the stairs would fit first time.
When it came to the design, open risers were selected to allow for light to flow through the space. Detail was incorporated through stepped strings, continuous handrails and slatted balustrades spanning over two floors, which take inspiration from other areas of the building, like the reception and cinema room, to create a sense of continuity.
All components were made from ash – a strong and durable hardwood with a medium-coarse grain pattern. Finishes were applied on-site, with a grey satin stain chosen to complete the look.
The installation of the stairs went smoothly – described by the Project Manager who was running the fit out as fitting perfectly!
